關於 Bram Cohen

前 RIAA 大頭對 DRM 的抱怨
在 Boing Boing 看到前 RIAA 大頭 Hilary Rosen 對 DRM 的抱怨：Hillary “RIAA” Rosen: iPod DRM is cruel and unfriendly!，Hilary Rosen 所寫的在這：Steve Jobs, Let my Music Go。
這要說是自作自受嗎？hmmm…
Firefox 1.0.4
在 永遠的真田幸村 的「因應安全性問題，Firefox 1.0.4釋出」看到 Firefox 1.0.4 已經有放出來了。
不過 Firefox team 且在 Firefox 首頁 的下載 link 仍然是 1.0.3，這次對這個 0day security issue 的反應真不是普通慢… (超過七十二小時了)
WordPress 1.5.1
Upgrade 到 WordPress 1.5.1 (Beta)。
複雜的 UTF-8 世界
昨天一整天在弄 FreeBSD 5.x 上面配合 putty 的 UTF-8 環境，包括了 screen、mutt、vim、irssi、centericq 以及一些台灣常用的套件。(主要是 BBS 的問題)
screen 的問題在 ronnywang 那邊有看到解法：解決用putty看全形字會變一半的問題了!!，其中比較值得慶幸的是新版 putty 已經將 patch import 進去了，不需要在依照原文所寫的方式自己硬幹。不過 screen 還是要自己硬幹，包括改 code 與抓 yjchou 學長所提供的檔案，不過這邊在不斷的 dirty hack 後的代價相當值得，至少上 BBS 完全沒有感覺了。
再來是 irssi 的部分，透過 ports 安裝的版本必須自己去抓 recode.pl 丟進 autorun 的 script directory，不過目前看起來也都還相當正常。
vim 的部分畢竟本來就相當注重 UTF-8 的環境，只要把 termencoding 設成 utf-8 (或 utf8，在 vim 裡都可以用) 就運作的相當正常。
真正的問題在於 centericq 與 mutt 對 UTF-8 計算字寬的問題。
像是 centericq 的畫面就可以發現 Unicode 邊框的問題處理的不太好：

實際算了一下發現都是直接把 UTF-8 word 的長度當作顯示在螢幕上的寬度，於是就…
果然 UTF-8 的世界很複雜啊… :(
Microsoft 裡的 Linux Lab
Microsoft 裡面的 Linux Lab：Meet Microsoft’s Linux Lab Head Bill Hilf (from Slashdot)，原文在 Meet the Head of Microsoft’s Linux Lab (from Yahoo! News)。其中看了讓人莞爾一笑的一句話：
“I am a non-Microsoft guy working at Microsoft,” Hilf said.
不管怎樣，Bill Hilf 在 Microsoft 主要的任務是讓 Microsoft 的大頭們知道 Linux 在做什麼，以及 Microsoft 的產品與目前 Open Source 的產品差在哪裡以求改進：知己知彼，百戰百勝。
Firefox security hole – 0day
Firefox 1.0.3 有 security hole：New Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 Exploit (from Slashdot)，而且這次是 zero-day：發現 bug 與 exploit 被公開在同一天。
Google hacked？
在 Engadget 報導了 Google 被 hack (?) 的新聞：Google down? Google hacked!。在原文 Google Hacked? Or DNS Hosed? 講的比較完整：
Update #3: David Crane, the big PR cheese wrote back a few seconds ago and had this to add, “Google’s global properties were unavailable for a short period of time earlier today. We’ve remedied the problem and access to Google has been restored worldwide.”
這樣還是很有趣啊… Google 的 DNS 居然出包 :)
